I've put together a section for free online writing courses on my website - http://www.selfmadescholar.com/classes.php?tag=writing. I just wanted to share it because I've been searching for these classes for the past couple years and thought maybe someone else could benefit. It's hard to find some of the good stuff using search engines; sadly they seem to be buried.
I took a couple of the NewsU courses from Poynter and found them to be rather good (although I despise the "learning games" aspect). I particularly liked the course on the Freedom of Information Act.
Surprisingly, Suite101 also has some decent classes for beginners.
Annenberg media has a few free writing classes all on video-on-demand. (You watch them online). I'm excited about those, although I admit I haven't watched any yet.
If anyone knows of any other free online classes for writers, I'd love to hear about it.
