About 15 years ago, the letter below was published in "Letters To The Editor." I see it did little good but felt led to write it. Can I have some feedback? Do any agree with me?

"With An Adjustment Xmas Becomes tmas"

Since discovering the reality of our Saviour many years ago,
it disturbs me when I see the abbreviation for Christmas to be "Xmas."
Not only has Satan taken Christ out of Christmas but has replaced it with an X. The sign associated with adult rating.
It would be so simple to rotate the x a few degrees, thereby making
it a t. How appropriate it would be, since the t is the Christian symbol of power, the cross. It would be so fitting to have the positive sign (t)
used to abbreviate the most positive act of love in the history of mankind.
Many will read this and say, "it's such a little thing." They would be correct---so let's change it and glorify God.

Xmas
This abbreviation for Christmas is of Greek origin. The word for Christ in Greek is Xristos. During the 16th century, Europeans began using the first initial of Christ's name, "X" in place of the word Christ in Christmas as a shorthand form of the word. Although the early Christians understood that X stood for Christ's name, later Christians who did not understand the Greek language mistook "Xmas" as a sign of disrespect.

So no one took the Christ out of Christmas. The X stands for his Greek name.

Thanks Guys:
I heard that a few years after my letter came out. I'll bet that 90%
of people didn't know either.
OK!! Never mind!

Good observation and good idea! Your point about taking Christ out of Christmas is well taken. Your idea about changing rotating the X to make it a cross is original and indeed preferable to the X,and I think it is original. At least this is the first I've heard of it. Great post!

Interesting, Ferret. I had heard something to that effect, but never the actual meaning of the X. That's pretty darned cool.
