Arlitexas takes a deep breath and decides it's time to post a greeting.

So much for hiding behind a s/n. Yes, I'm from Texas. lol Actually, I have moved back to the small town where I grew up. It's still quaint but not the same as when I looked at it with youthful eyes. No matter.

I am a first time writer although some find it strange as I'm not exactly a spring chicken.

Actually, I may be the odd chick around here. I am writing historical fiction. I discovered a distant relative whose real life story rivals any western set in nineteenth century Texas. The research has been fascinating and rewarding. I don't want to go nonfiction as fiction can flesh out the story much better.

I've always enjoyed historical fiction and find it is my niche. I look forward to learning more as I cruise this board. Thanks for the forum and the opportunity! Arli

Welcome! I'm somewhat new myself...What's it like in Texas?

You are not the only one writing historical fiction. There are a lot of people out here. Though I do have yet to find someone who writes Young Adult Fiction like me.

Loretta, Texas gal here too:)

Hi there ArliTexas:) I'm currently in Oz, but "hopefully" on my way out the door to return to the US soon.
I'm new on here too, this is my first post...wandering around trying to find something I located earlier this morning so I can reply to it:)...Of course, I'm upside down here on the globe so this could take a "spell;"...Glad to see you, it's always nice to see "home"...:) especially when you're this far away from it!

Welcome ArliTexas, I'm from Texas also. Live in a small town just north of FT. Worth. Good luck with your writing. I know you will get a lot of what you need right here on this board.

Hello to you, Arlitexas, and welcome to AW! As it happens, I'm no spring chicken either (although not yet retired) and I also write historical fiction! It's not the most popular genre, though, but it's just the only thing I know how to do.

Hi, and welcome to AW.

As others have mentioned, you'll find several people here who write historical fiction. That one thing about this board, it's big enough that you can probably find others with similar interests no matter what type of writing you do.

And we're goofballs.

Welcome to the boards! My BA is from UTSA and I have lots and lots of family in Texas, too. My most recent Texas residence was in Canton.

Hope you are enjoying an early spring. Have the blue bonnets started blooming yet?

:welcome: to a fellow Texan! Are you in Arlington, or is your board name just a coincidence? Historical fiction set here could do very well. You might look to some of the university presses when you're ready to query. They're always looking for new and interesting stories about people who lived here. :)

My first book was also historical fiction, set in Colorado's railroad days. Like yours, the real story rivaled any novel, and it deserved to be told. Being a niche book, it hasn't been a huge success, but we broke even and the historians and critics loved it (which is what I was shooting for anyway!)

Good luck with it.

Howdy from yet another Texan. Shhhh. THey're gonna ban the lot of us when they realize there's enough Texans here for a coup.
