In another world, of course
Even if it's not something you're particularly fond of, does music help you think? It's proven that music wakes the brain up (unless it's super-soft).

I'm inspired by all the music I listen to. Even if it's a sad song during a humorous scene, music keeps me going. :p

I'm sure that this thread has been made before, but I didn't want to bring back a necro.

There's a thread along the lines of 'your novel's soundtrack' somewhere here. :)

Music is what does the trick for me when all else fails. I usually have to find the 'right' music for the next scene before I can tackle it; fortunately, more often than not I have a good idea as to what kind of music I need/want, so I don't end up spending too much time searching for the right track. Although, admittedly, sometimes it's more searching than writing, but that only happens when I'm stuck. In which case, I find that spending more time on something that will help me get back in the swing of things isn't a wasted time at all.

Another curious thing I noticed is that the rhythm of the music I write to affects the rhythm of my prose (on the sentence/paragraph level). I've had beta readers read a scene or chapter to the same music I used while writing it, and they noticed it, too. Not to mention that if I find music that fits the mood of what I'm writing, it enhances the experience for me, and that way, I can usually write it better.

Yep, the above might very well be a self-suggestion. Which is okay, the way I see it, so long as it lets me get the job done well.

I enjoy having music going, but I don't need or expect it.

It can inspire me, in that there are some songs which have led to short stories. We have talked, somewhere on these forums, about how I keep wanting to write a short story around the song "Hallelujah" and have failed to find a story to write.

Music can inspire, just like TV, movies, or a nice walk in the park.

I like listening to music just to be able to ignore the coughers and tappers sharing my space at the library. I plug my earbuds in, and get lots done.

When I write for my pulp SF series I listen to Elvis. Those who have read the series will probably understand. It just fits my lead character so well.

Everything else just depends on my mood.

So can bathes.. at least according to the late great Douglas Adams.

That's my preferred method, yes. I adore a good bath. With a good book.

I need a palmtop computer that I can type on with just my thumbs, so I can write in the bath. THEN that'd be fine.

Yeah, I actually thought of the plot to Plutonium Blonde while sitting in the bath reading Philip K Dick. Hence that's probably part of the reason a fan once called it "what you'd get if you blended Blade Runner with HH Guide." My ultimate compliment. :)

I was so relieved when I saw the movie Something's Gotta Give, where she writes to one particular type of music while writing her screen play because I actually do that. I thought it made me a bit of loon. At least if I am, I am not alone in it. :D

I listen to a lot of songs from movie soundtracks, which are meant to invoke a certain mood in the listener. I find it helps me get deeper into the scene to listen to music that fits the mood I'm going for.

If I’m looking for new ideas music great, otherwise I can’t concentrate on my wip, I keep imagining the story the music is telling.

While starting my novel, I listened to Donovan's song Catch the Wind. It helped me focus that I wasn't just writing a murder mystery, but also a love story. After a few days I changed the title to Try and Catch the Wind. It was published February 1.

Yes, music inspires me, it has done since I was a little kid, but there again, so can a tiny scene in a film or listening to someone saying something, I guess it depends on how vivid your imagination is.
Elton John's song Sacrifice inspired a brilliant scene for my novel when I was sat in the car with the stereo on one night, it really conveyed how hurt two people would be at having to split up through unseen consequences in a passionate affair. I still can't hear that song without thinking of the heartbreaking scene in my novel.
Also, a tiny split second in a scene from the film Transporter 2 gave me the inspiration for a whole book! My book is nothing like that particular film though.

Whatever happened to Sven and Bjorn? I miss the funny little voices in my head.

On hiatus, cause Carrie got a "job," and I'm messing with deadlines.

That is to say, they've landed themselves in prison after a dangerous accident in a club where they took the name* literally, and they are discovering that prison life is terrible, except Pancho who is their cell mate is a nice man although he must have some sort of muscular disorder, because when they are all in the showers, the poor guy keeps dropping the soap.
