I'm targetting my latest WIP at SSE, and the MFC insists on being called Amy.

I have a definate perception of 'Amy' but am curious to know what the name Amy conjures up for you?

I'm still not sure whether to go with this name or not, your perceptions will be very helpful.:)

Thanks.

I think names conjure up different things to different people according to the people they've known with that name.

To me, Amy (or Aimee, I've known one of those) conjures up an intelligent, attractive, girl-next-door type of person, because this describes the Amys I've known. Also, a somewhat younger person because I haven't heard of many Amys that are older than, say, 40 or 50; I suppose Amy wasn't that popular a name sixty or seventy years ago. (Aimee conjures up a really cute Vanderbilt University cheerleader.)

I don't see any problem with a character named Amy being anything you want her to be.

Tall slender bright green eyes red hair with lots of waves, a figure others would kill for, extremely smart and knows who she is and what she wants out of life. Yet timid and in may way awkward in some ways, with a knock out smile and her own style.

Oh did I mention thats my 23 year old daughter's name? We spell it Amie.

Here in Newfoundland Amy is both popular in young girls and older and elderly women.. I work at a nursing home and have encountered many Amys over the years.

I like the name Amy. I have a positive response to that name. :)

But hey, just remember -- no matter what name you pick, there will be people who don't like it. <G> If you're happy with it, and your character is happy with it, use it.

Sweet, warm, intelligent. I've known several Amys and they've all fit that personality type. The bodies have been wildly different, though. :)
