your book on myspace?

hey i tried to make a myspace page for my novel, but i'm having problems. any help?

What are you having problems with?

I found a layout by Googling "Myspace layouts" and spending an afternoon hunting. Beyond that I don't know much. I don't get MySpace, even though I have a page and everything.

Myspace is pretty easy, just login, answer questions and poof you've got yourself a page.

For a book I would imagine you don't need anything too complicated.

Truthfully, I'm not sure how much of help myspace is, but it certainly can't hurt:

Just for heaven's sake, please don't put the text on top of a busy background image, and if you're tempted to use music ... don't.

No worries, I bet most people posting stuff on their stories would do it in Myspace blog entries, so the profiles won't be much of a disturbance. Someone else suggested to use MySpace, since it promoted many bands, the same effect could be rubbed off on writers.

Yeah, myspace lets you blog. It's quite easy to use. To me myspace just seems like a modernized version of geocities.

I really don't think it will be much of a help but I do maintain a page there, because you never know. Plus being a stay at home writer it does let me "meet" people.

The bottom line is, if you don't get your books in stores it doesn't matter how many web pages you have.

This is new to me too. I'm a complete newbie at myspace.(Joined yesterday) It reminds of a similiar website that, I started on when I first started using the Internet. Same concept; user profiles, buddy list and chain messages back and forth.

You can add pretty effects to the blog if you want to.

It is a reasonably low effort way to promote a book once it is available somewhere.

Make it simple and fun/informative/attractive. No contrasting colors, no busy backgrounds, no music, no blinking, twirling, jumping graphics, no ugly fonts.

Unless that's what your book is about.

Like you need more agreements, but...agreed. Putting your whole novel up would be absolutely barking mad.

Funny, but I just assumed the OP meant they'd be putting a picture of the cover with a link to Amazon where you can purchase it. (That's what I would do.)

Great there goes my clever marketing ploy of changing the name of my next book to The Spaced Out Spammer and releasing it only on myspace. ;-)

I'm pretty certain their intention is just to promote the book on myspace.

I have a personal myspace page, but never would have gotten it without my 11-y-o stepson walking me through it. My profile page is quite busy (the static of a tv screen without a channel--kinda like in Poltergeist), and I have music by Crystal Method. I just like the look and sound. I never visit it unless my stepkids message me on it.

If I ever get published, though, it would be a good tool for marketing the book. Anything that keeps me from having to actually interact with living people.

I personally LOVE my myspace and won't ever get rid of it. It's great for networking and getting information out to a large audience. Generally if someone asks for me to add them i comment on their page and get even more requests. From there when i get a release date or update my blog one small bulliten and it goes out to a huge amount of people.

But i agree..I've been going back through my page and getting rid of some of the graphics. But not all. I've gotten too many compliments on the page as is LOL
