It's a bitterly cold night and I'm in my cosy study surrounded by personal 'treasures' - I wonder what you have collected in your own writing spaces - and I'm in the small market town of Ludlow on the border between England and Wales. This is an area called the Welsh Marches, probably well known by all you medievalists. It's a wonderful place to be with ancient villages bearing magical names, manor houses, and a ring of magnificent castles built by Edward to subdue the Welsh, the poor misguided man.

My adventures have included mother, artist, professional actress, minor minister in the C. of E., teacher, bank teller in Africa, published poet and short story writer, and now a poor old would-be-famous authoress of children's novels. I've written three, and a couple for adults, no luck so far, but never mind, I shall keep trying.

Hugs, from the Churchmouse....

Hi, Churchmouse.

Welcome to AW.

We were trying just this morning to help another member come up with a title for a collection of short stories about Welsh saints.

Welcome to AW! Your study sounds very cozy. On the wall behind my computer, I've got a huge corkboard with pictures of places I'd like to use in my fantasy novel, and people I'd like to see cast as the main characters. Oh, and there's a footstool next to my chair so my cat can keep an eye on me while I'm typing.

Enjoy the forums!

What a wonderful introduction. I’m from N. Ireland myself, although I live in America now. Your descriptions of home have me yearning for Portaferry and Strangford Lough… and soda bread, rashers and black pudding. Now I’m homesick and hungry. Sure enough, your writing has had an affect on me already!

I think that's my favorite sentence of the day. :) Welcome.

Thank you.

Thank you all for your kind replies. Hope you have a wonderful time in London, TrainofThought, and TheIT, thanks for sharing, a real writer’s environment, and I am especially envious of the cat, how great to have a cat for company. A fellow Ludlovian, Cath, wow, do tell me more, and another cat lover….brianm, sorry I made you homesick, know what you mean, one reason why I no longer live in Africa, although such an amazing country. Penguin Queen, thanks for the encouragement, the name comes from the poem by the English poet John Betjeman, The Diary of a Churchmouse, one I dearly love and have used in sermons from time to time.

Hugs, from the Churchmouse.

Oh, I'm a Worcestershire lass, Churchmouse, but my ma grew up in Bridgnorth, and we spent many Sunday afternoons in the pubs in and around Herefordshire and Shropshire. And Ludlow is just so pretty.

Now you got me homesick. I used to live in Comber. Started flying at Newtownards, kept crashing into Scrabo tower so they told me I had to stop.

Hi Churchmouse,

Welcome to AW and I hope you enjoy it here... and I apologize for my ancestors who wreaked havoc in Wales. And Ireland. I guess England, too. This really looks bad, which one of these is the delete but--
