Could care less

If you want to convey that your capacity to care can't get any lower, you'd say, "I couldn't care less", because there is no possibility to care less. Am I clear as mud?

Yup, it's one of my favourite pet peeves, too.

Another is "What's new?" meant to be a sarcastic retort. The proper way to say it is, "What else is new?"

Unless you're being sarcastic, and then I suppose the correct phrase really is, "I could care less."

But, yeah, it's highly annoying.

Used to have a boss that was always saying, "What's up?" Didn't matter if he'd not talked to you that day at all or had just called you ten minutes before. That was his standard 'hello' - on the phone, coming through the door, calling or answering... in a clipped, annoying voice. Drove me nutz! I finally started answering, "Same $#i!, second day." Broke him quick.

Then... we fired him.

Oh man, I heard a radio show host (from NYC, mind you) say it yesterday and I love him, but I wanted to go there and slap the couldn't out of him. Drives me nuts, too.
