Question about adapting legends/folk tales

I have taken an interesting but archaic Ojibwe story which I always enjoyed and adapted it for a children's story. My question is this: when I submit it to a magazine, will they expect me to include the source material? Or is just telling them that it's "a retelling of an Ojibwe legend" enough?
