I've already posted this question regarding Beta Readers but I was wondering if I could get some feedback regarding agents. . .
I'm doing (what I hope will be) the final polish on my manuscript but at the same time I feel like I'm not doing enough to really seek representation and try to get published. I know the more experienced writers are probably shaking their head right now but personally, unless it goes against some kind of unwritten etiquetteetiquette, I'd like to start trying to get my MS on the market (or at the very least, my name out there).
I know it might seem kind of tacky to be mailing out queries when the
manuscript isn't finished, especially from a new writer but I feel kind of useless just writing. I know that getting responses might also take a long time (I understand that 3 weeks would be a pretty small amount of time considering the bulk of quries and manuscripts that agents go through but I'd still like to be a bit more proactive in my future as this is what I want to do with my life.)
However by the same token, the progress I've been making on the final draft doesn't really mean anything if I can't finish it for whatever reason and if something were to happen that would prevent me from finishing the MS, not only have I wasted the agent's time and resources (postage, what not) but it would put a nasty taste in my mouth as well >.>
I've got another book in my head (same characters and stuff) but I'll be biting my nails and not concentrating on what I'm doing while I wait for a reply where as right now I'm deeply involved in getting this manuscript done and have little else on my mind. I'm not easily distracted once I get involved in something but if I were to send out queries after I got the MS done I'd be trying to tread two paths at the same time.
*Bah* Thoughts?
