Dog Handlers and Groomers and Pedigrees, Oh My!:
PetStyle.com Offers a Behind-the-Scenes Scoop on All Things Westminster
Short Hills, N.J., February 7, 2007 --

In advance of New York City “going to the dogs” this month, Petstyle.com has unleashed a variety of programming around the 131st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Dog lovers will not want to miss a minute of this in-depth coverage as the competition heats up at Madison Square Garden on February 12 and 13.By the time we tune in, the competing dogs have been through rigorous preparation, and trials and tribulations that could rival the best of daytime drama. PetStyle.com, America’s first lifestyle broadband pet network, will be covering the behind-the-scenes world of Westminster - and is offering viewers a front-row seat.

Here’s a look at some of this month’s Westminster features on PetStyle.com:

· Behind the Scenes at Penn Hotel: Jill Cordes will be providing the “poop and the scoop” from behind the Westminster curtain, including a look at what happens off the show floor at the swanky yet pet-friendly Penn Hotel. With only 24 hours to transform from a NYC tourist hotel to a kennel, we will follow the concierge, manager and housekeeping staff of this 18-story landmark hotel as they try to fulfill every guest’s need--from doggie bone room service to adding a dog spa and boutique to the hotel’s onsite amenities.

· Host your own Westminster Party: Plan the perfect party for your human guests and their pets with PetStyle. Jill Cordes can provide tips from designing an invitation, to preparing a pet and owner palate-pleasing menu.

· “The Road to Westminster”: Go behind the scenes with PetStyle and follow two dogs and owners while they prepare and train for the ultimate dog show. From the intense focus and discipline in both training and grooming, to the close and loving relationship between dog and owner, PetStyle will answer “How do you achieve Westminster’s Best in Show?” and “What are these dogs really like at home?”

· The Fur-ballous Life of The Best in Show Dogs: In this four-legged version of VH1’s popular celebrity shopping list show, we follow Rufus, Westminster’s 2006 Best In Show dog, and profile his bling-studded lifestyle as the most famous dog in the world.

· Doggone Fans: Join PetStyle.com in taking the pulse of the intense Westminster spectators--from hardcore show fans, to breed junkies, to die-hard doggie connoisseurs. As it’s said that the real Westminster action happens in the stands, PetStyle will interview dozens of attendees to deliver a funny and revealing look at how deeply the show is ingrained in our pop culture.

· Bench Life: Westminster is as famous for its benching area - where dogs in every breed category are on display before the competition - as it is for its Best in Show winner. Jill Cordes will serve as “Queen of the Bench,” providing a behind-the-scenes and under-the-bench look at this unique phenomenon in the dog show world.

· Angels on A Leash: This exciting pediatric therapy program benefiting the young patients at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian, and New York City’s Ronald McDonald House, is made possible through the sales of the official 2007 Westminster poster, “Westminster. There’s Only One,” by artist Debra Hurd. Petstyle will bring you a glimpse of the program, the dedicated owners and hospital staff, and the dogs that provide the love and affection to lift the children’s spirits.

Whether you’ve been a dedicated Westminster Dog Kennel Club Dog Show watcher since you were a pup, or you’re new to the viewing pack, PetStyle.com can keep you up-to-date and in the know this year. From the first to the very last run, Petstyle.com will deliver your most fun and informative Westminster experience to date!

PetStyle is America’s first lifestyle broadband network fully dedicated to dog and cat owners who want to enhance their relationships with their pets. Way cool ! Thanks for the link :D

I loved seeing Rufus win last year, now I'm rooting for Ellie Mae. Petstyle.com looks like a great page to bookmark.

Thanks for the info. I love Westminster. Greatest sporting event ever.

I was really disappointed when that terrier thingy won last year. I hope the judge gets his eyeglass perscription fixed for this year so a real dog can win.

Blind Prediction: A member of the Toy Group will win in '07.

But I'm comin' online during the final ring and making my predictions before judging ends.

As long as it's not a poodle.

Hmm. But those terriers aren't members of the toy group. You're giving in already? :tongue

Personally, I'm hoping a larger dog wins it this year. I could give a list of hopefuls, but it would probably include about 100 dogs.

A German Shorthaired Pointer won back in '05.

In 2004 it was a Newfoundland.

And in 2003 it was a Kerry Blue.

. . . .we'll forget about the minature Poodle and Bichon Frise of 01 and 02 respectively.

And let's not bring up 1999's Papillon OR 1990's Peke !

Yeah, come to think of it, there's never (yet) been a Dalmation winner.

An English won back in '38 - but no, an Irish has yet to win Best in Show.

Ahhh, Irish Setters. My mother had one when I was a kid. So beautiful.

So stupid, but oh so beautiful !

There was an irish setter down the block from me on the way to school when I was in grade school. Everyday on the way to school and on the way home, I'd play with this dog. They kept him outside, it seemed, in a kennel all the time.

I'd arrive at school or home with my arms full up to my elbows of dog slobber.

:D

I'm an avowed cat person, but I do enjoy watching the dog shows. So do my cats. ;)

I remember an absolutely gorgeous German Shepherd who won either the Westminster or Eukaneuba competitions a couple of years ago. Is that dog still competing?

I always like watching when the handlers take the dogs for a run around the ring. With the toy dogs, the handler takes one step and the dog has to run its little legs off to keep up. With the big dogs, it's the handler who's jogging. :D

Well "Geneva" won Best in Group at Eukanuba in 2006. She's 4 years old this year, so she's probably still showing.
