Yeah that was my attempt at being clever for the night. Now I have none left over for any of my WIPs ;)

Seriously though, I have already been way too posty here, but I figured I'd introduce myself.

First off, I'm a Wisconsite and the last three days have been, kid you not, double digits below 0, and yet I've still had to go into work. Retail/Sales is a cruel cruel world.

Umm... other things about me-besides getting very serious about my writing, I'm planning a wedding for this September. I'm very fortunate in that I'm marrying the sweetest man ever. No, really, he is. :) He is also a firm believer that I'm going to get published and have this successful writing career, and he's definitely one of my motivating factors in going after my dream, though I'm definitely taking a more realistic approach to it-I'm going to set goals and go after them, but I'm not going to hold my breath and I am expecting rejection. No one is wildly successful the first time out. Anything worth attaining requires lots and lots of work, patience and perseverance.

/end preachiness.

That said, I currently have three WIPs-one novel that's mostly finished and almost ready for submission, a series of novels that are plotted out and being adapted from a pilot script and tv show treatment I began writing about five years ago, and a comic book. yes, a comic book. I have an artist who works for a local indy studio and a kick-ass premise to work with.

My approach to writing is this:
-write, write, write. every day. even if it's unrelated to current project and just a drabble, write.
-get to know my characters. don't commit anything to paper (or word document) until the characters are living in your head, and pounding away in an attempt to get out.
-assign a soundtrack to my work-emotional pulse-points get songs, and then these songs trigger the characters/emotions of the work in my mind
-lose myself in the work, and then try not to get so lost that I neglect my life

Other interests include: wine-tasting, cooking, dancing, painting, long walks on the beach, etc, etc.

That said, I'm thoroughly enjoying these boards and I've already found a lot of useful information and incredibly friendly, intelligent people here, so it's no wonder I'm already addicted :)

Welcome to the forum, Kelly. I, too, know the living hell of working in retail. Good luck!

Hi Kelly, Welcome!

Congratulations on the wedding plans! You should plan a honeymoon somewhere with a long beach, dancing (you could do that on the beach), colorful sunsets that look like paintings, good food and wine.

Why thank you, and I think I've got that covered, as we're going to the Bahamas and staying at an all-inclusive resort with a disco. Not sure about the wine down there though, but the drinks are free with the resort stay, so *crosses fingers*

But I hear Cable Beach, which we're staying on is gorgeous, so I'm quite excited for it! :)

Hi Kelly!
I love long walks on the beach too. Except not here in the middle of winter. :D

That's exciting! I've been to Nassau only for a day, but I remember beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue water.
