Yes, folks, that's right: There will be TWO contests this year -- something for everyone!
1) The Valentine's Contest: write a poem -- love and happiness, hearts and flowers, eternal bliss, the spark of the first kiss, hearts and hands entwined.
2) The Anti-Valentine's Contest: write a poem about the shadows of Valentine's Day -- broken hearts, the hypocrisy of holidays, being alone, how love stinks, bah humbug.
Submit entries via PM to me, with the contest name and poem title in the subject header. Separate PM's for each contest, please; one entry per contest.
The entry deadline is SATURDAY, February 10, at 11:59PM (US Eastern time).
Voting will open after the closing date for entries, and it will remain through Tuesday, February 14, at 11:59PM (US Eastern time).
PRIZES:
Valentine's Day Contest -- A copy of Sonnets from the Portuguese, by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
ANTI-Valentine's Day Contest -- A copy of De Profundis: The Ballad of Reading Gaol and Other Writings, by Oscar Wilde
The volumes are yet to be purchased. If I can't find the exact title, I'll provide something suitable.
ETA:
TWO MORE PRIZES. Thanks to Jason (jst5150) - as if he hasn't done enough for Country and AW, has donated a copy of his book, Vibrating Moonlight, and $25 cash.
AND ANOTHER PRIZE: Thanks to Mark (LimeyDawg), a copy of The 100 Greatest Love Poems of All Times is in the mix.
Enter up to one poem per contest if you like.
I'll list the poems, without authors, soon after the submission deadline. They will be numbered.
Voting will be by PM (private message) -- one vote per person for each contest. Send me a separate PM for each contest, with the poem number and title in the SUBJECT line.
Enjoy!
