Hi all.
I used to come here but its been a while. I have been slacking off on my writing for a while now but lately I can't get one of my back burner scripts out of my head. So now I am back at it and do not intend to stop until its done.

Title: Floating On Sycamores

Logline: A charmed life of stardom is the result of a young girls wish. A wish reconsidered when she is given a glimps of the life she missed out on.

Please give me your opinions.
Thanks...........

Hi,
Welcome back. Good luck on your script. I'm not sure what you want an opinion on, the logline didn't make much sense in the way of orientation on the story, but that's just my opinion. Perhaps you could give a synopsis so we get more of the story, and say what kind of an opinion you are looking for.

Do you want us to say whether or not it catches our interest, whether or not we think it has a market, whether or not it's been done before?

Welcome back, Yldii.

Tough one to figure out since I don't know what the girl can do in terms of changing things/going back. How young is she? 5, 10, 17, or what? Some hint would be nice. What does "a charmed life of stardom" mean anyway? Plainer English, please! A teen girl's wish is granted when she becomes a famous rock star, but... Or whatever fits.

For future ref, loglines and script pages should go to the Screenwriting critique forum

Hi Sara, nice to meet you.

I will try to elaborate a bit.
The concept comes from the old wivestail that if you make a wish while blowing away the seeds (little fuzzy things) of a dandelion, your wish will be granted.

11 yr old Hally Rosenthall, aspiring drama student makes a wish on a dandelion to become a star. The next day she finds that local the small town playhouse where she studies is being sold and torn down to make room for a bank. Saddend, she vows that this snag will not stop her from reaching her goals. The story moves 22 yrs ahead and we find Hally Rosenthall(now known as Hailey Rose)has indeed become a superstar. With a phone call from home comes the bad news that her father was killed while trying to subdu a gunman in a robbery attemp at the very bank that replaced the old playhouse. She returns home for the funeral and eventualy returning to the hillside overlooking a sycamore grove. This is where she made the wish. While reflecting on her life and the time she has missed with her family, she meets a native Ameracan(that in the end turns out to be a tree spirit) who tells her that it was her wish that sent her life in the direction it had gone. He shows her a glimps of how life would have been if the wish had never been made. She sees a life in which her dad still lives and the playhouse still stands, run by her and her childhood crush who is now her husband. Hally learns that lifes true riches can not be obtained by money or fame.

There are lots of plot points that show how the granting of the wish was carried out.

Any opinion on any aspect of this would be helpful.
Thanks...........

So kind of The Family Man kind of story? Where had he not taken that plane or gone back or whatever he would have had a family instead?

I suggest watching that, and Sliding Doors. They are both excellent movies at portraying the what if's story progression.

No problem. They are both very much like what you are describing.

I would also suggest finding the scripts and reading them to see how they are handled after you watch them.

Rent them both, have the scripts printed out. Watch the movies first, then study the scripts then watch and read. It's amazing what things you can pick up from the movie that you miss just watching and what things aren't significant in a script really jump out on screen. Plus it should give you some good ideas on how to handle it since both are handled differently.

Hey Derek, I remember you from Before. You gave me some good advise on my comedy Script "The Accidental Monk". That was quite a while back though. Anyway it is great to see you are around.
