A little overdue....

Hello, everyone,

I discovered Absolute Write about a year ago, when I was doing agent research. Finally joined in August, and have actually made a few posts in the last month. So I figured I should make this belated introduction--and also say thanks for this great resource!

I discovered writing in midlife (came back to it, actually) and have recently completed my first book, a music-themed memoir. My agent is currently sending the proposal out to publishers. I'm trying to ride out the waiting-and-rejection process--and also working to deepen and strengthen the manuscript. (This is not for the faint-hearted, that is for sure!)

I'll hope to continue to post now and then--but not too much, because I find it's just too tempting to get lost in the forums and avoid the revisions I need to be doing

Thanks, everyone for the warm welcome and good thoughts! No, my last name isn't Anthony (Susan is actually my middle name, anyhow!) And yes, I am a part time musician--as with my writing, it came along a little later in my life. Still have the old "day job," though increasingly I find my passion lies elsewhere, in my creative life.

I do feel very fortunate to have gotten this far with the writing. But it's funny, each step in the process (actually finishing a book, querying, getting requests for a partial, getting an agent, eventually getting a publisher and an editor--I hope!) is an accomplishment, a cause for celebration... and at the same time just another chance to be humbled, disappointed, and to feel rejected if you give in to those feelings. As with learning to play music, I think you have to love the process and the discipline for its own sake and not let yourself be defined by the outcome. At least I am trying to cultivate a certain Zen-like detachment... sometimes it works better than others!
