I recently heard that Vampire books are on their way out, yet I see them all over.

Are they over-played?
Thanks

Nope. So far, vamps are still very far IN. I know of two people just this past week who sold vampire stories to major publishers for release in 2007 and 2008. One was a YA and one an adult urban fantasy, and I know my editor mentioned on her blog that she was very interested in a "hip-hop vampire romance" that an agent just sent her. LOL! I can't imagine what that would read like. :D

But I think they're still very much marketable.

They're marketable, but I think the market's still pretty tight. I think most places are looking for stuff with a different 'twist' to the vampire theme. I know my agent sent my book (which had vampires, but the main character wasn't one) and I had a lot of "The writing is great, but there's too many vampire books out right now" type comments.

Take it with a grain of salt, of course.

Actually, I'm pretty stoked on an idea for an 'otherworld', story. Now I find I want to wear a lot of black.

Clara Bow-now there's an idea for a born again Christian type VAMP! Hmmm?

I have to agree on the vamps are not out but looking for fresh twists. My current WIP involves Vampires but also has The Fae and a demon realm woven in the storyline. (Not to mention a ritual and myth they are after) I'm hopeful it will hit a cord with those who love vamps but are looking for something 'new' to 'sink their teeth' into.

sorry couldn't help the pun!

Personally, I hate vampire stories. I don't tend to see them all over the place, at least not in the YA section. But then again, I could be looking in the wrong place. The only "out there" stories that I recognize as vamp stories are Twilight and New Moon.
