I wrote a story a couple years back that came to a total of 56 pages (single spaced CN 12). I tried many times to make it longer but all it did was make the story (in my opinion) boring and redundant.

My question is should I even bother to try to get this published as a novel, or would it be considered a short story?

Sounds like a novella to me. But what do I know? I'm sure someone more erudite will be along any minute.

Length

That's what, 25 or 26K? That's a novella, not a novel.

There are plenty of publishing avenues for novella's and short stories. Depending on the story it is possible to to accomplish everything you need in 56 pages. I'm of the opinion - why not try to get it published!

Sounds like a novella to me also. Of course you can try to sell it. It's been my experience that novellas don't make a lot of money.

Novella

A novella is a tough sell. There aren't many markets, and for some genres there are darned near no markets. And most markets there are usually want novellas from writers with a recognizable name.

You can always try to sell it, but while it's making the rounds, get to work on something that is novel length.
