Seeking SFF/Paranormal romance group

I'm a big fan of this group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PNWriters/ and its sister group for readers: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/paranormalromance/. There are many published and aspiring authors in both groups.

There are a number of forums that have SFF/paranormal members. You might try Romance Divas, which has an active paranormal group. If you do decide at some point to join RWA, the FF&P (futuristic, fantasy & paranormal) chapter has a wide and active group of like-minded people. I LOVE it at FF&P, because everybody is very upbeat and helpful. I know there are others, but I'm typing this on my laptop on a WIFI connection because our satellite link is down. I'll give you some more of them when I'm back up at the house.

FWIW, I've heard good things about the RWA FF&P chapter too, although it's not my genre, so I haven't been involved with it.

What's nice about FF&P (and RWAOnline, for that matter) is that a) they're COMPLETELY online, and b) nobody is concerned whether you ever get published or not. It's all about the WRITING of paranormal, in all its glory.

Yeah, I understand about the money angle. It's hard. But I've found it's definitely worth the cost, just in the people I've met. I'd forgotten about PNWriters. I'm a member there too (but think I'm still on No Mail. I need to fix that.) You might also want to visit some of the forums of other paranormal writers, like LKH and Katie MacAlister, or even Jim Butcher. In most cases, you'll have to join up, but they're free, and there are a lot of awesome people at all of them! There are a lot of other authors, pro and newbie, who frequent other author's sites and we chat up a storm.

I've just received word from RWA that I am now a member.

I'm thinking of joining the Outreach Chapter because it's online. I hate buses and that's the only way I can get to the local chapter. So I'll use visiting rights once in a while

If it's difficult for you to pay the fee for RWA, the online websites mentioned are the best, I think.

It would be nice if you could join, Clara Bow, as I hear some members say that if it weren't for RWA they may have never been published. But I don't know why yet. Have I split anything in this paragraph?

P.S. Since I have been writing paranormal stuff I have now tried to write the "normal" stories, whimper, I think I'm addicted, as I'm wandering into across the border again in paranormal. Oh well, it's nice over there ha ha

Thanks for the heads up. I've been looking for the same thing. Joining RWA and my local chapter would be $125 total. I'm just not sure I can afford it and I want to make sure I'll be getting something that will benefit me.

My local chapter also segregates the members between total newbies, actively querying but not published authors, and authors who are published. I’ve worried that I’d be thrown into a group of people who like me have no experience and can offer little advice.

The online groups sound like they’re exactly what I’m looking for.

RWAOnline (at my behest) solved this problem by not having a PAN (Published Author Network) affiliate--which would require that only recognized publishers be . . . well, recognized. Instead, we have a Published Author Group, of which I was the PAL (Published Author Liaison) for 2006. The PAG doesn't distinguish between epubbed or small press or large press (we even have a PA author in our ranks!) Published is published, so long as the book is for sale and it's a romance. FF&P is more traditional, but nobody really distinguishes there, either. Hundred-Pubbed hang out with brand new writers who have just penned their first chapter. No worries!
