I have a 3000 word fictionalized narrative I'm almost done typing. It's based on my brother's story. As a teen, he witnessed a police officer beat up the town drunk, who later died. He did the right thing and spoke up about it, appearing in front of a Grand Jury; however, the results were not what he expected. He learned a hard truth about authority figures at a young age.
My story is mostly fictionalized, told in a flashback. I don't have any trouble with grammar and the basics, so you won't struggle through it. I've been told I'm a very descriptive writer, but I don't overdo it. What I need help with is:
-feedback on whether the narrative is varied and rich enough to hold the reader's attention--I'm trying to grow as a writer.
-writing realistic dialogue
-figuring out my audience and tailoring it to that audience if I wanted to market it (suitable for YA? But with a topic involving police brutality??)
-how to find a market for it, if I decide to go that far
-other stuff as necessary
Thank you so much!
