I have been preparing a book on an untapped extreme sport and am starting to look around for publishers. Ten Speed Press seemed like a good bet, but there is no way I can query them by mail where I live.

So....are there any other publishers out there like Ten Speed? Niche books on outdoor sports and such?

Thanks

Tenspeed.com -- Ten Speed press is not, to my knowledge, a sports publisher their niches are spirituality, cooking and novelty books.

That would be some of their imprints. Ten Speed starting doing bike books and such.

But what I'm wondering is.... are there any other presses people are aware of them that might be open to sports niche material.

Thanks you

Rodale, maybe? I don't know if they take book proposals, but they do publish sports stuff. Have you checked out the bookstore to see who publishes books that are similar to yours?

At Amazon, I "browsed subjects" and went to sports, the searched for "extreme." I have no idea if any of the books that the search found are similar to yours, but some of the publishers that turned up in the first 10 books were:

Adrenaline Books
Nomad Press
Sourcebooks
Anchor

It would be more productive for you to do this, since you know the sort of book you're dealing with.

BTW, I queried Ten Speed about a ski conditioning book, but they turned me down. If skiing was too extreme for them, I'm not sure of how they will react to extreme sports. Dreamtime might take it, but you have to show a bit of a "mind/body" approach.

Indeed, the reason they do bike books is more as part of the novelty secion--they don't list sports as an interest area.

Oooo, now I feel a little dumb. There are no bookstores where I live, but I should have thought of the amazon thing. Thanks. And thanks to the others who´ve hipped me up here.

Thanks for the tip on Dreamtime, Lisamer. A different approach from mine. But I got another idea. They have "Open Your Heart With Tennis" , "Open Your Heart With Singing","Open Your Heart With SKiing" and all that, So I´m going to query them for "Open Your Heart With Surgery"
