Which one is correct? e-mail or email

I've seen it written both ways and need to know which way is the correct way to write it out. I'm thinking e-mail, but not sure. Thanks!

The "experts" generally agree e-mail is "more correct", but this is one of those things were common usage may eventually overrule the experts.

Personally, I use e-mail since it stands for electronic-mail.

Better yet, since neither is definitively correct, you can always check the style of whomever you are writing for. Most tech publications defer to Wired style (which I believe generally prefers eliminating the hyphens across the board), but general interest publications will have varying standards.

That's a good point pconsidine, but I'm working on a query letter. This is why I was wondering if there was a correct form, or if either was acceptable. Thanks!

On a query letter or snail mail, I use e-mail.

But in e-mails, I use email.

Clear as mud...
