Hi all,

I am pleased to have found this place, I was doing a search on a publisher and followed a link here to the Background Check forum. I have not been published yet but I am in still that researching publishers phase which can take years to get to where you've finally gotten the right query letter to the right person who is willing to take a chance on your work.

I have three children's stories written and a forth nearly completed. In addition to that I have a memoirs book done that I hope to see published in the near future. I also have two other almost finished novels I could whip in to shape when I find time this year. I've led a pretty interesting life and think that I am going to make a difference in the world through my writing. I know I get told all the time by people in the community how inspiring it is to see me getting around and doing things.

You see I nearly died in a motorcycle accident in 87" and I am very lucky to be here. Almost everything I've written features disability in some form, from being an amputee like myself to having autism like my 10 year-old son. I personally know what living from a wheelchair is like and I don't mind talking about it so if you have any questions just ask away! I lost my left leg to the hip just about and that is why I use a chair, I have an artificial leg but it's too hard to walk with it.

I look forward to being part of the forums here and have been looking for something like this for ages, amazing how I never found this place sooner in all the googling I've done. ;) Thanks to you all for setting up such a fabulous place for writers to gather, share advice and tips as well as ideas on things. :D

Wow, now I can't make a joke about you having a motorcycle accident in 87 inches - I'd feel like a jerk if I did :D

Welcome to AW, Pamster, we're glad you joined up! This is the perfect place to research who is real and who is fake in the publishing world. As well as Preditors and Editors and a few others. But here you can always ask about anyone, and help will be forthcoming.

And, don't tell anyone but . . . we have some fun here, too :)

Hi MidnightMuse,

I found this place the first time through a search on "Crystal Dreams' publishing and was taken to the thread on them in the Background forum which I found quite interesting. That was last night, then the next time was today when I found P & E and did some reading there too. I am so happy to be here. :D

Thanks for the warm welcome MidnightMuse. :D

Thanks everyone! :D I am the kind of gal who will lurk for a day and then register, because it's just the way I am. I have too much to add to just sit silently watching the debates and discussions. Nope I like to get in there and debate and discuss right alongside you all. I am sure this will be a place I make many new friends, just judging on the response I've gotten from my humble Newbie thread, I can tell you guys are a real great group of people. :)

And I read the newbie thread info so I will definitely be within guidelines. It's just so wonderful to be here with you all. :D

You'll be within guidelines?!? Well, what fun is THAT? :D It'll be so lonely for you over there when the rest of us spend all our time pushing the envelope and driving Mac and the Mods nuts!

Anyway, welcome to AW, Pamster! If you decide to take a ride on the wild side, I can hook you up! :D

Looking forward to hearing you debate and discuss! :welcome:

I know a friend who's wheelchair bound. She has Lupus. Got struck down in the spine one year, at 21, and it took her a whole year to learn to walk again. Then she gets struck down again mere weeks later. Fifteen years later, she still can't walk, and she has osteroporosus (sp?), the bones and body of an old woman. The stories she's told me about the piddly little things and the big things, (like being stuck in an elevator for hours on end, 'cos it jammed, the others managed to crawl out, but since she was stuck in a wheelchair...she just had to wait. Thank God it wasn't stuck because of a fire!). The frustration of stairs, stairs and more freaking stairs, the burden placed on her elderly father 'cos he has to load and unload the chair if she wants/needs to go anywhere, unable to get a job despite having a Master's, people looking at her with pity, being poked by doctors 'cos she was such a 'rare case', people refusing to take her out a short distance to the mall because they're 'scared of the chair', no kidding.

So yeah, I can imagine you can make a world of difference with your writing!

A question: do you itch where you lost your leg?

Welcome Pamster!

That's how I started, too, but bumping into AW while researching a "shady" agent. And here I am, 18000+ posts later. LOL.

Welcome to the community.

Thank you so much everyone! I feel really glad to have found you all here. It's definitely a great place to meet with other writer's interested in talking about the business. I am really enjoying my time here and think this place has so much useful information you could read and read and read and still never find the end! Now THAT'S excitement! :D
