Hello writers, I just wanted to say hello to everybody out there. I am new here and am excited to learn from all of you. Any suggestions to start off with?

Hello Billboy. Welcome to the Cooler. My first suggestion would be to visit a forum geared to your particular writing interests and leap in. There's a Novel forum, a Poetry forum, a Short Story forum, a Freelance forum, a Scriptwriting forum...the list goes on and on. Just jump into the ones that interest you and start participating.

Enjoy your stay!

Welcome! Another suggestion would be for you to visit the Newbie Guide to Absolute Write, Next on Our Tour..., and Links to Places of Interest, if you haven't already. Lots of helpful info can be found in those three threads that will make your visits to the rest of the forums more productive.

Well... except for 'Office Party'. Nothing could make 'Office Party' more productive. :D

Hello again everybody! Thanks for all the warm welcoming notes.
After reading some of the posts, am I correct to think that the chief ingredient in becoming the next John Grisham is PERSISTENCE?

Welcome, Billboy! Yep, I'd say persistence is easily half of the equation when it comes to writing success. (The other half is talent... my own belief is that you have to start out with a base level of ability, and the rest can be learned. Then it's just a matter of never, ever giving up!)

Jenna said it best...my philosophy is persistent and determination. If you have it in you, you CAN do it!

Thanks for all the greetings.
I have spent the last 48 hours going over this site.
I was wondering why I felt hungry!
Seems like PATIENCE is another big factor in becoming a successful author (in finding an agent and then waiting for a publisher). I read that some people took 6 years or more before their novel was ultimately published.

Hi Billboy and welcome to AW. I see that others have already given you good starting points to find your way around AW.

And, in answer to your question, YES!

ETA (that means Edited To Add): Patience is good too... Getting published can be a slow process, so just go on writing while you're submitting.
