Hi. Er, how to do this.

My name is Robert Branch, age 17, and aspiring writer. I like to read fantasy and sci-fi, and hail Anne McCaffrey as my favorite author, a close second to JK Rowling, and third is taken by Christopher Paolini. Paolini is there because he's my role model. A 16 year old writing with his kind of quality is something I would like to emulate very much.

I prefer to write fantasy, sci-fi, or whatever is on my mind, and am currently working on something I call Imbalanced. I sometimes experience Writer's ADD, and jump around from story to story. For this reason I have yet to actually finish something. On the plus side, when I finally do get around to them again, I'll have easy source material. I get most of my ideas from dreams, and usually have ones that are stories in and of themselves. If I can't live my writing, that's the next best thing.

I like listening to music while I write, and have a wide selection to choose from depending on the mood I want to be in when doing a particular scene. My favorites are anything with a good rhythm, and not so much screaming at the mic like it kicked your puppy.

When not writing for stories, I like to participate in written roleplays on Keiichi Anime Forever forums, and as a result have created numerous characters that have taken root in my writing. Islaitha Frost, my current screen name, is one of them and could be what you might consider my dream self. Aside from roleplaying, I generally hang out with my friends on that forum, most of whom are writers themselves. I'll be referring them to this site, most of them are far better than me. I've been told I'm my own worst critic though, so it might just be that.

I stumbled upon this site while browsing the Writer's Block section of Ctrl+Alt+Del, and fell in love immediately. Just when I was beginning to think that my writing would never recieve anything more than, "Good job." That just bugs the heck out of me, even moreso than people saying "u sux luzor."

Sorry for giving my life story, guess I'm just used to in-depth posts. Hope it's not an inconvenience. Looking forward to being a part of this incredible community. Thank you.

~Robert

Hi Robert, welcome to the water cooler. There is a genre forum on Fantasy and Sci-Fi which I'm sure you'll enjoy. There is also a Share your Work forum (password vista) where you'll get good advice and encouragement by experts in your field. I'd better warn you up front - this board is addictive! :welcome:

Hi, Robert. Thanks for telling us about you. Let me tell you about us.

Most of us are angry, hard-bitten creatures, the dregs at the bottom of the barrel, soured and put off by our lots in life, our writing, and whatever bits of fungi which we may currently possess. We have neither interests nor friends, nor do we know what this "are pee gee" is of which you speak. On account of our not being allowed out of these forums by our psychologists.

Or something like that. Maybe we're just nice folk. I can't remember.

Five bucks would jog my memory along. Yessum.

Welcome. :D

Whaaa? Why didn't you tell me that when I joined? I thought there were "real writers" here!

<stomps off, disillusioned>

<comes back>

Pee Dee was just kidding. We have real writers here, too. :D

Um, yeah, don't feed the Pee Dee, Robert.

Give me a macadamia cookie, and I'm very well behaved. :D

Welcome, Robert. We're a good, wholesome bunch. Don't listen to Pee Dee! Good luck on your works, and I can definitely identify with moving from story to story...I think it has to do with the fact that we writers just have so many ideas in our heads at all times!

I worry for the health and well being of future generations of writers when the first advice they're being given is "Hi, don't listen to Pete!"

Wow, thanks for the welcomes everyone. I've already received excellent critiques in my first day here that will definitely help me improve, and I'm probably going to get addicted to this forum. It's just a matter of time.

And I'm sorry PeeDee, but I'm broke. Starving artist and all that~
