Know a publisher of political books?

My interest is quite narrow. I've just completed a book entitled "Do conservatives accept inequality, poverty and war as the price of conservatism?" and have set about looking for some interest. Does anybody know of publishers or agents who have an interest in the subject matter? Thanks.

Not right off (I avoid reading political books), but the best way to find them is to go to your bookstore and see what companies published the books on political topics. You can also search Amazon by topic and scroll down (for each book that seems pertinent) to find the publisher.

Narrow indeed! Unless you are a talk show host on Air America, or a columnist for a major daily, or have a major platform in matters of politics in some other way I think that you will have a tough time finding a publisher or even an agent for a title such as that.

I would further say that if you have already written the entire book then don't tell that to agents or publishers. Just put together a solid proposal (there are guides how to do that on this site) and try and get an agent to represent it. Non-fiction does not require more than a solid book proposal.

Best of luck anyway.

There are hundreds of political books on the market right now. Most of them are published by the big publishers using known names, like Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter and such. Searching the bookstores is a good idea, as well as Writer's Market and maybe politically-based websites and organization, like NewsMax and Townhall. BTW, O'Reilly's latest book is published by "Broadway Books," whom I've never heard of, but may be a subsidiary of another house. It might be worth checking into, though. I think subsidiaries can be checked in Writer's Market and/or the Literary Marketplace. Hope this helps.

Most of the press is liberal. Books like Michael Moore's can be found in almost any mainstream non-fiction catalog. Liberal books outnumber conservative books by more than ten to one.

Traditionally, the big imprints were liberal so conservatives like Ann Coulter found it hard to get their voices heard.

A few years ago imprints like Crown Forum at Random House were set up to fill conservative needs. Almost any imprint can publish a liberal book.

With respect to the content . . . you will need some kind of qualification to get a title like yours read. Another poster mentioned being a talk show host. Another possibility would be if you are a professor at a college or some other qualified expert.

With respect to having an outline or a complete manuscript . . . I know another poster suggested you not admit to having a complete work and just offer a proposal. While I am no expert, I just sold my memoir to Crown and the publishers remarked at how complete the work was. I would not have achieved anywhere near the same result with a proposal.
