Finished a draft of my Ms and gave to beta readers about a month ago. The holidays came, and people got busy. I didn't ask anyone for anything, figuring I'd give them six weeks or so, but I got my first response last night! A friend and his wife were about half way through and wanted to give me the comments they had so far.
They are having a good time with the book! They were arguring back and forth about how they felt about different characters. It was great to listen to, since these sorts of arguments about characters had been going on only in my head for six months or so. They had some helpful comments, too. They were arguing about what they thought would happen at the end.
I hadn't written anything on novel no 2 for ten days, partly because of the holidays, and party because I was in a slump. This discussion has really energized me to get back into my daily routine.
Even if I never publish the Ms, I have entertained some of my Beta readers, and that seems pretty good right now.
