Hello everyone, I'm obviously a newbie...Just wanted to drop in to say hello and introduce myself. I am a working screenwriter and have some down time because of a small case of writers block.

I am currently writing a horror/psychological thriller. I recently finished a comedy that I hope will be in pre-production in a few months. The horror genre is quite new to me and has caused me the most grief at this time. I decided to write the horror because of the genre, not an idea. So the brainstorming began and I am half way finished with a treatment.

I also worked as an Assistant Director for 5 years and have produced a couple of projects along the way. In the few years I have made the transition to the career I had worked toward for quite some time.

Anyway, I look forward to posting and talking with everyone. May the Muses be with you all!!!

That's exciting Bran, not the writer's block, but if you ever need a sounding board feel free to e-mail or pm me. Horror and thriller are two of my favorite genres, it becomes especially clear when half my ideas and most of my finished scripts are part of those two genres lol.

Glad you are joining us. Although many of us are experienced, many, like me, are new to screenwriting. Please share your knowlege of the industry.

By working screenwriter, do you mean your total income comes from screenwriting?

Yes, my income and life revolves around writing at this time.

I am working on my third screenplay for a three picture deal. I've not just been a writer, I was an AD for 5 years as well as produced some projects along the way.

I have worked on building contacts so that I may continue to write and produce. I have a few partners as well, so we are just about to start development on a few projects. I must say that working as an AD it has definitely helped with the screenwriting process....

How exciting that must be. At this point I can't even imagine a one big picture deal let alone three.

Well, I worked hard to get the connections so that I wouldn't have to grieve so much over no one looking at my material. Once you have a well known actor attached, things move along quickly.

I remember having a package WITHOUT a script, just the idea. There was one actor and one DP attached. That package went further than most scripts. Now the hype has been built and the screenplay will be written....(one day) haha...

Will you do so later?
It would be really fun to go see a movie by someone I actually know.
Someday I'm going to stand up in the theater during the credits and shout "I chatted on a message board with that guy."

I think it would be fun to see a movie by you and stand up in the theatre and say, hey, I talked to that guy!! I'm sure there have been people coming through here thats done something for everyone to see....(as far as a writer)

I just love the industry and telling stories....thats the love we all have!!!

I know the experience... I had a real good friend in High School that after graduation went on to USC Film School. (I didn't) Anyway, we've only talked a couple of times in the 20 years since, then just earlier this week I was in Blockbuster and saw his name as producer on the back of a DVD box. I ran through the store telling anyone who would listen... “Hey, I went to school with that guy... he was my best friend…"
