Hello all!:hi:
I'm a genre fiction writer that writes mostly speculative and mystery fiction, but I dabble in romance and historicals as well. My first short story was published last year. Hooray! Now I'm working on a novel.

Also, I'm trying to organize a local writers group. If anyone has any advice on this PLEASE HELP!:)

I'd like to meet others in the writing industry.
If anyone is in the NYC metro area and is attending a reading or convention I'd love to meet you.

Hi, and welcome, Jenn! I'm not in the NYC area, alas, but there should be plenty of conventions and events out that way. I believe the KGB bar hosts a lot of pretty well-known SF/F author events.

You write genre? Whoa. I didn't think anyone did that anymore.

:D

Organizing a writer's group: Be friendly, find other writers and if all else fails, offer to buy them drinks. Sure fire.

Heck, I'm not even sure what genre fiction is... (Of course I'm not sure what pulp sf is -- and I write that...)

Toss is some chicken wings and nachos and you've got yourself a writer's group.

Greetings! People were kind enough to welcome me, so I'm passing it forward! A hearty welcome to the forums from a veteran of about 2 days.

You should have no problems whatsoever finding a writing group in NYC. You could probably just stand up at any cafe in the Village and ask who the writers in the room are. Half will probably raise their hands, the other half will be too ashamed.

Wish I could help you out. I've been dying for some wings and nachos.

Cheers,
MRA

Welcome! Feel free to wander over to our "Get with the genre" forums and look around. There's a lot to see.

I've actually seen a recent list of writer's groups in NYC. Let me look around and see if I can find it and I'll post it up here. :)

:welcome:

You've got to be in one of the most writer-satuarated areas on the planet. The library should have some listed; it's a good place to start. Then there are some fantastic online critique groups!

Since I'm in a writer-dry area, I can only join online groups, which are fantastic!

Have fun!
