Does anybody have any links or suggestions where I can look at poetry for children?

I've had a good browse through some of the links on the threads but they are more focused on 'adult' poetry and I'm trying to get my head around rhyming verse.

Thanks in advance and a Happy New Year to you all:)

*bump*

What comes to mind for me are the A.A. Milne books ("Now We Are Six", "When We Were Very Young") and R.L. Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses.

Is that of any help?

Thanks for that, Poet.

Sorry I haven't seen your response before but I was moving house around the time when you posted.

Actually I've had good responses from publishers regarding my rhyming text for picture books. The main problem seems to be that they have trouble publishing this type of thing because they can't sell foreign translations and the pb market is generally quite depressed.

So far though, I've gone from standard rejections through to 'sweet' (???), unique, funny, rambunctious, original, so I'm feeling pretty confident about my work and am still scouring for an opportunity!

Shel Silverstein is one of the best children's poets. I used to read them all the time when I was little, which is probably why I like poetry now. One of my favorite books is "Where the Sidewalk Ends," and there are a lot of others that he's written, too.
