Just saw Rocky Balboa - the final installment of the Rocky film series. I thought it was pretty good. Stallone wrote a good script.

As you all see it, let us know what you think.

I've never seen and Rockys. Even my elderly mother has seen them.

Is this really the final one?

I heard there working on one more where Rocky starts a boxing club in the nursing home he's sent to. After having his dentures stolen he challenges the thief in the ring, it's a true battle of honor.

It's easy to mock some of the weaker sequels, but remember that 'way back when, Rocky was a major event. Fans still reckon it's one of the greatest movies of all time. (...In fact that's exactly what it says on imdb.com! - and by golly it made money).

Edit: there's a Rocky Balboa thread in Office Party if you haven't seen it.

Rocky is/was/always will be one of the very greatest of movies ever made. Rocky II was acceptable, III was decent enough. Neither were anywhere near as good as the first. III is as high as I go with Rocky. Stallone has been a caricature for years. somebody take away his movie camera

I saw it last night and I have to say a few things. No spoilers so don't worry.

When I saw they trailer a few weeks ago, the audience was laughing. It was like some cruel joke. I, and I assume the rest of the audience, felt that this was going to be really, really bad.

Well...

I liked it. I really liked it!

The first 5 minutes was corny and cliche, but once you get past that, there are quite a few touching moments and some great filmmaking here. It had the feel of the first film-- a touching human drama.

Sure, Rocky and Paulie have there quirky, corny dialog at times, but the story and acting (for the most part) was great.

A few things I would have liked...

There were three major subplots and one with the son was arced nicely, the one with the boy and the girl could have been tied up a little better.

Great Job Sly!

Now. Rambo IV: Pearl of the Cobra? I'm not sure about that one. We'll have to wait and see how bad (or good) that will be. Kinda has the feel of "Collateral Damage."

The first Rocky was fantastic and showed us what Stallone could do as a screenwriter and filmmaker.

Then it just went downhill from there. I'm glad he's back to do some real drama instead of another cartoonish, mindless action crap.

Haven't seen the new one, and am ambivalent about the continuation of the franchise. But a good movie is a good movie. So unless they start cranking out crappy Rocky vs. Bullwinkle VIII, I guess it's okay to have more.

Rocky

The first Rocky was one of the best movies I've ever seen in every posssible way. Two was almost as good. This new one is every bit as good as those first two.

Well there seems to be a lot of good reviews here, I may have to swallow my words and actually see the movie.

Rocky Balboa

The first Rocky was one of the best movies of the 1970s -- probably in the top twenty films of all time! Rocky II was decent. Rocky III and Rocky IV were enjoyable for what they were -- mindless action flicks. Rocky V was, well....next!

But this one...Rocky Balboa (aka Rocky VI) recaptures the glory of the franchise at its very best. I have to say that it is every bit as good as the first one. Well-written. Well-directed. Well done! I really liked the storyline with the son and Rocky's speech to him. Stallone deserves an Oscar for the screenplay.
