Thought I'd start an upbeat thread.

Anybody have any cool anecdotes about the scripts and/or nominees for best original screenplay by the Writers Guild? Amazingly I met a nominee, Alan Geoffrion ("jeff-ree-on"), last April when I was assigned to profile him. He was LITERALLY a first time writer, literally never wrote anything before in his life, who had done some excellent historical research, pitched it to the right person at the right time, and was asked by Robert Duvall to script "Broken Trail" for AMC.

We met up the other night at a neighborly function and I stood by as he got the call informing him of his nonmination. I thought he was going to fall over. Such a nice, unassuming guy who has a lot of talent, more ideas in the pipeline and the kind of modesty you wish there was more of in Hollywood. Congratulations Alan! I wish you the best and I'll be rooting for you.

I hope to learn more as this thread expands.
