looking for an experienced mentor? anyone? I am housetrained!

The genre of my writing style is humor, and particularly abstract humor, faulty logic and non-sequiturs.
I am looking for a mentor who is experienced and knowledgable and who is willing to answer my questions on a book that I am writing, and on my writing style. If they would be willing to read a little bit of the book that would be great! I would like some advice on reaching my goals, but first I want some help with determining how realistic my goals are.
I would also appreciate some advice and guidance with writing articles as a means of adding to my income. I am very experienced in the field of alternative medicine, and I have also written cookbooks.
Funny enough, I believe that I would make a great agony aunt, lol, but I have no idea as to how to go about finding such a job either...
thank you very much

Hi Draculeen - I don't know if you've visited the Share Your Work forums, but there is a good humor section with quite a few humor writers and critiquers. You might want to check that out and possibly post a portion of your work to get some comments. It's also legitimate to ask for suggestions of markets when you post specific pieces. Why don't you give that a try? Puma

I'll second that idea. if it makes you feel really uncomfortable you can PM me and i'll take a look. but i am brutally honest, so ask yourself if you are willing to trust 1 complete stranger as opposed to a large group. generally the large group will give you a much more balanced, softer opinion. I would recommend that, and by exposing your work you may find someone who relates to your style and will be more than happy to read more of it. i post my stuff there all the time and usually don't worry about it. take a look. good luck!

The other thing is humor is WAY SUBJECTIVE, so what one may find funny, another may find dull.

The share your work forums are a nice place to start.

Or you can take the other approach send your material out to buying markets and see what happens.

Dear Puma, Dreamworks and Johnzakour, thank you for your replies!
I will post more on this wretched book of mine in the Humor section :) I would like to submit the idea to some literary agents, alas though, I am beginning to discover that preparing a proposal is even more complicated than writing a book lol
Have a great day, everyone! :)

The general concensus seems to be that the Mentoring & Writing Partners forum is superfluous.

p.s. If someone knows about this subforum and posts in it, they are also aware of the SYW section.
