World's First Writing Marathon

"Once Upon A Deadline" - the world's first writing marathon, is a one-day writer's contest in Sydney, here in Oz.

Take a bunch of writers, give them an itinerary, a laptop, an observer, confine them to public transport, and let them go. The goal is to visit the places on the itinerary, then from the inspiration write a 1,200 word story that gets read that night. People pay admission to the readings, they vote, and their admission money is the "People's Prize".

I think the marathon reference is not to the 1,200 words so much as spending the day following the itinerary, and the exposure of having everything you do and write being accessible to anyone who wants to look in on you.
