I googled the name of my book LETTERS TO EBAY and, astonishingly, a link to its Amazon.com page came up. What's so strange about that you might ask? Well, my book's release date is August 30, 2007! I had no idea it had been posted, as I have yet to get my pages back from copy. Upon further research I've found it on many other book selling Web sites including Amazon Japan and booksamillion.com. I have a couple questions for those in the publishing know. First, is this unusual to have listings to pre-order nine months in advance? Second, my book is also listed on Target's and Wal-Mart's online page -- does this mean that those stores will also physically carry it as well? Any insights?

Not in the AW forums, I swear!
I've seen it before. And I think you want lots and lots of preorders, btw.

As for Target and WalMart - I don't think they carry every book on their websites in their brick and mortar stores.

But still, this is great news. Are you excited???

You bet I'm excited! I had no idea and when I found it listed on Amazon and I ran into our bedroom with my laptop and woke up my seven month pregnant wife.

I'm curious as to how Warner Books works concerning these online deals they make.

Great news! Seems to me that the marketing and promo people at Warner are on the stick with big plans for your book. Technology has definitely made pre-publication buzz very affordable and therefore more common. But still, this is a good sign. Reaction might affect the final decision on the size of the first-print run. I'd seize on this for your own promo efforts now.

Just musing here...but it does seem possible that the buzz could be pre-emptive as well, in case there might be any competing titles on the horizon. Just from a marketing standpoint, positioning you as the "brand" makes any others the copycats.

Congrats!

Paul,

I think it depends upon the deal your publisher has with the distributors. I'm on the Web sites, but not on the shelves (as far as I know). The exception is for a local Barnes & Noble and Borders where I have book signings scheduled. They've stocked them for the holidays, but I don't think they would've without the signing.

In short, online space is cheap; shelf space in the store is premium.

Congrats, by the way!

Hey!

Paul,

BTW, just on a whim, I checked Target.com due to your post. They've mirrored the Amazon listing of my book, too. Cool. I wouldn't even have thought to look. Thanks for the idea! :hooray:

I'm currently ranked #922,237 on Amazon! Yipee! Looks like my parents purchase 4 pre-sale copies. :snoopy:
