I'm thinking of potentially writing my first attempt at a short erotica story and was wondering if there are any books you'd recommend that you enjoyed in this genre? I haven't really read much of it either so I thought it'd be a good start for me - to help get more of an idea of what it looks like.
Right now the other book I'm working on is romance and I've read plenty of those but this will obviously be slightly different.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd suggest going over to Clean Sheets (http://www.cleansheets.com) and having a look through their archive -- they have quite a variety of literotica.

Erotica is such a personal choice of reading it would be hard to recommend a particular book. It will depend on what you find enjoyable. Some are fantasy/romance, while others are sex filled page after page.
If you are unfamiliar with reading this genre, I suggest scanning Clean Sheets as a start and find what interests you.
Some authors I have enjoyed include:
Kelly Carr
Lori Foster
Emma Holly
Desiree Lindsey
Hanne Blank
Anne Rice
Erica Jong
Nancy Madore
Anais Nin
Anne Desclos under the pen name Pauline Réage

If you are writing short stories I guess you should read them, Liek the Susie Bright collections, Clean Sheets or Desdmona's

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll look into Clean Sheets and see what I can find.

The very first erotic book that I read was Vox. I don't remember that author, but Im sure someone on here will.

I inadvertantly purchased the Kushiel's Trilogy by Jacqueline Carey, and found that I couldn't put them down. Their more epic fantasy than erotica but the underlining effect she puts on them is great. The book focus more on the story than sex, yet it's right there. I'd suggest that as kind of just sticking your toe in the water.

I have to pipe in and say, I just finished this series and it was AMAZING! Like you said, though, I don't know if I'd classify it as erotica. It had a kink factor, but it was written more for the mainstream audience. But these are INCREDIBLE books. Wow. I highly recomend them.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just looked into those and my local library has them right now so I'll maybe start with these ones.
