It's been a long time since we've had a poetry contest. Too long.
So, we swing into the holiday season with the
AW Festive Season Poetry Contest
How it Works:
You submit a poem directly to me (up to two entries per person). I post all entries in one thread, without attribution. People vote. You get the most votes, you win the prize.
**NEWS FLASH**
Thanks to the flood of generous prize donations, the Contest will now award prizes for First, Second, and Third Places.
The Prize:
One copy of the 'classic' Christmas CD
Aussie Christmas with Bucko & Champs
Aussie Christmas with Bucko & Champs Volume 2
NEW PRIZE ADDED:
The redoubtable LimeyDawg has generously donated a copy of Ted Kooser's The Poetry Home Repair Manual for the winner. If Limey himself wins, the book will go to the second-place poet. Many thanks, Mark. That's a brilliant offer.
SECOND NEW PRIZE ADDED:
rtilryarms has donated a copy of Stories of Strength to the prize pool. A wonderful addition. Thank you, Mike!
THIRD AND FOURTH NEW PRIZES ADDED:
jst5150 has donated the following new prizes:
- A copy of his book of poems, Vibrating Moonlight
- $25
What a legend. Thank you, Jason!
FIFTH AND SIXTH NEW PRIZES ADDED:
Dawno has just donated the following prizes:
- $25 gift certificate to the bookstore of the winner's choice
- $25 donation to AW in the winner's name
Thank you, Dawno! You're amazing.
SEVENTH NEW PRIZE ADDED:
KTC, gentleman and likeable rogue, has contributed a year's subscription to The Word Weaver, a bimonthly writers' newsletter - a $20 value.
Goodonya, Kevin!
EIGHTH NEW PRIZE ADDED:
MacAllister has generously provided a subscription to the AW Markets Premium Newsletter -- an excellent resource and superb prize.
Thank you, Mac!
Rules:
Once the poems are posted, you may send me your vote, also using the private message function. Oh, yes: one vote per person.
The poems will be both numbered and titled (if you submit without a title, it will be creatively called Untitled).
To vote: In the subject window of your private message, type both the number and the title.
You'll need to type something in the main message window as well, since it won't send an empty message. But please be advised that I might not even read your message and will not be replying to any of them. So you could type the meaning of life, include naked pictures or offer me a million dollars and I might never see it (but then again I might)...
Voting will close at 11:59PM US Eastern on Friday, December 15, 2006. Any votes received after that time will be returned with fruitcake crumbs and an egg-nog smudge.
I will then post complete results with vote totals for every entry, and announce the winner.
If you win and opt to receive your prize, I'll need a mailing address of course. I'll either mail you the CD myself or have it sent from an online distributor.
So get those quills quivering, folks! Happy Holidays from the AW Poetry Forum!
(ETA: Yes, I did copy from William Haskins' announcement of the St. William's Valentine's Day Poetry Contest. Why mess with success?)
