I'm typing my first draft in Word. Is there an industry standard for font? From looking at screenplays online, there seems to be but I can't find it.

Times New Roman is a good font. And Arial.

Dick Lang wrote all his scripts in helvetica and no one I know ever complained.

There is no argument here, if all you want is to disagree and be stubborn, then go ahead...

The story about E.T. being stuck in turnaround until someone thought to change the font from Verdana to Courier is just an urban legend.

The story about MDP stuck in his own mind is quite not an urban legend.

Courier 12pt is the only font.

I do not understand you. Can you rephrase and resubmit?

(btw, this post is not written in courier)

MDB: Please stop.

Courier 12 is the font to use when writing spec scripts. That's really all you need to know.

It has to be a Courier 12 font but you have a choice of which. In Word change the line spacing to exactly 12 Pt in the Font/Paragraph menu

If you are using Windows then "Courier New" may not print very darkly and "Courier" is a system and not a TrueType font (ie for the screen not for printing)

If you do a search on google for

"Courier10BT"

and

"Dark Courier"

These are two darker fonts you can download for free and use instead.

The Final Draft trial used to install Courier Final Draft on your computer - don't know whether it still does.
