Doing a bit of homework, I found some more
recent information, which I quote:
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES. [these are for all of Soft Skull]
The best way to know Soft Skull Press—to know any independent press, for that matter—is to read the books we have published over the years. The tastes of Soft Skull editors run the gamut, but we do have definite tastes.
Soft Skull Press accepts unsolicited submissions. Email editorial[at]softskull.com with a subject heading of “SUBMISSION OF Fiction/Nonfiction/Graphic Novel” (whichever is appropriate). Include your contact information on your attachment/s, be that a sample chapter or the whole manuscript. Attachments should be no bigger than 2 megabytes. For graphic novels, send a minimum of five fully inked pages of art, along with a synopsis of your storyline.
Sadly, we can no longer accept unsolicited poetry manuscripts.
Before submitting your manuscript, please be familiar with the work that Soft Skull publishes. Generally we do not accept unsolicited manuscripts from the following genres:
Self-Help / Motivational
Academic / scholarly work
Fantasy (please, no more vampire stories!)
Erotica
Please be advised that we will not always respond to submissions that fall into these categories.
Because of the volume of submissions we receive, we can't promise a personal response. Please note that we do not accept phone calls, nor do we accept International Reply Coupons (the Post Office here won't accept them). If you can only mail your submission as a hard copy, you must include a self-addressed and stamped envelope if you wish to receive a reply. We will do our best to get back to you, though we can’t absolutely guarantee that your submission won't be lost. Don't send anything expensive or irreplaceable, please, please, please.
