Where do I go to get the guidelines for Blue Moon Books? Every time I type in the website it takes me to a grey screen with the Blue Moon logo on it and nowhere else to go. I used to be able to get in but my computer crashed taking all the links with it :( . Anyone know anything?

Preditorsd & Editors seems to have noticed, they say "Blue Moon Books: a book publisher and seller. Link reported broken."

Blue Moon Guidelines from Feb. 2006

Back when I thought my fourth draft was it, I copied Blue Moon's guidelines. It seems their current stance is not web-based, if their link remains broken, which could indeed mean they're not taking author-submitted mss.

Anyway, here's what I copied:
Blue Moon books was founded in 1987 by Barney Rosset after he left Grove Press. In 1998 Avalon Publishing Group purchased Blue Moon which became one of their five primary imprints (Carroll & Graf Publishers, Thunder's Mouth Press, Marlowe & Company, Seal Press and Blue Moon Books).

Submission Guidelines:

Apparently there are no particular guidelines for Blue Moon. The imprint is mute on this point, possibly to honor Barney Rosset's legacy; Rosset hates rules. We suggest authors interested in submitting manuscripts to Blue Moon read a few Blue Moon books for an idea of what they like.

Not much to go on, is it?

If it's the same company I'm thinking of, one of their in-house authors was doing a panel at a writers con last year, and said that they no longer take outside submissions. They have an in-house stable and between that and occasional invited submissions they have all the manuscripts they need.

Blue Moon Books no longer exists - their sale to Soft Skull Press fell through, and Avalon is discontinuing the imprint, with no intentions of reviving or reselling it. I have this on good authority from someone who was a very prolific author & editor for Blue Moon.

Doing a bit of homework, I found some more recent information, which I quote:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES. [these are for all of Soft Skull]

The best way to know Soft Skull Press—to know any independent press, for that matter—is to read the books we have published over the years. The tastes of Soft Skull editors run the gamut, but we do have definite tastes.

Soft Skull Press accepts unsolicited submissions. Email editorial[at]softskull.com with a subject heading of “SUBMISSION OF Fiction/Nonfiction/Graphic Novel” (whichever is appropriate). Include your contact information on your attachment/s, be that a sample chapter or the whole manuscript. Attachments should be no bigger than 2 megabytes. For graphic novels, send a minimum of five fully inked pages of art, along with a synopsis of your storyline.

Sadly, we can no longer accept unsolicited poetry manuscripts.

Before submitting your manuscript, please be familiar with the work that Soft Skull publishes. Generally we do not accept unsolicited manuscripts from the following genres:
Self-Help / Motivational
Academic / scholarly work
Fantasy (please, no more vampire stories!)
Erotica

Please be advised that we will not always respond to submissions that fall into these categories.

Because of the volume of submissions we receive, we can't promise a personal response. Please note that we do not accept phone calls, nor do we accept International Reply Coupons (the Post Office here won't accept them). If you can only mail your submission as a hard copy, you must include a self-addressed and stamped envelope if you wish to receive a reply. We will do our best to get back to you, though we can’t absolutely guarantee that your submission won't be lost. Don't send anything expensive or irreplaceable, please, please, please.
