Blog Question

Am I right in thinking that if I post something I've written (ie, a short story or a humorous essay, versus stream of consciouness ramblings) on my Live Journal blog, that this does NOT count as being published?

Or do I have to do "something" to ensure -- should the stars align and one of the (oh so many) magazines, etc., that I've submitted to actually want to take the piece and pay me for it -- that said magazine would not consider it published already?

jchines & Rainbow, I'm sort of with you, but at the same time, everything I read keeps on saying that writers should have a blog. I'm not published yet, and, frankly, I don't know why anyone other than my friends and family would want to GO to my blog unless there was "writing" versus "rambling" up there. (My last couple of blog posts were pretty much asking, "why should I be blogging now?")

Riddler, so that means that when you get an acceptance, the acceptor is NOT feeling that your piece/s was published because it was on your blog? How often have you done that, and is your blog on something more or less "trafficked"?

Clearly, I am a blog novice, so any additional thoughts again greatly appreciated!

I guess I'll continue to inch forward on my so-called-blog (maybe that's what I should name it...LOL) but keep my focus on (sigh) submissions.
