I am feeling rather nosey. How many words per day do you guys produce? I reckon I am at about 500 wrods per day but that is probably an over estimate.

I'll say I average around 500 words/day.

That's a rough estimate. Some days I'm really feeling the flow and I write 1000-1500. Other days I spend more time editing so the word count would be close to 0.

I'm not one of those writers who can write every day. I've accepted that.

Uh...I probably average about 1500 per day, but when I'm really going, I can get a lot more in. I've done 10k in the last 3 days, 4300 of them yesterday alone. But that's after a month where I only got to actually write like 5 days out of the whole month, so as Withnail said, I'm making time.

I aim for a scene a day, which is about 1,000 to 1500 words. Four to six pages. Twice that, when I'm really rolling.

Of course, at the moment, I'm still recuperating from moving, so I'm doing exactly zero words a day. I'm almos done unpacking, and I hope to find the braincells responsible for creativity soon.

Argh. My words per day depends a lot on the amount of writing time I have per day. On a good day its 1k or more, but most of the time its about 500 for about an hour each night before I go to bed. I adore the days when I can churn out 2k for a week straight! Those are tough to come by while doing day job. Ew.

I have no idea. Best guess is maybe 1,000 a day, but plenty of zero days and a few 2500s.

Maryn, not as dedicated as she could be

I'm with Maryn on that. Some days I rock... others suck eggs. Some days are so bad I count forum posting as writing just so I don't feel like complete dirt.

Highly variable. My peak rate is around 4000, but I'm physically incapable of sustaining that for more than a couple of days--it would destroy my wrists to even try. My "arse in chair, fingers on keyboard" target is at least 300 words each day -- this is the writing technique that's about writing *something* every day, to avoid problems with forever preparing to write and never actually getting around to it. On a long term basis I aim to average at least 1000 words a day when I'm actually working on something, and it fluctuates around 500-2000 with the occasional 3000.

I'm currently unemployed so I can write full time, but to be honest my daily word count hasn't gone up much from when I was writing fanfic in my spare time around a full-time job. It seems that I can only generate so much story per day -- I need a certain amount of staring at the screen thinking of nothing.

6-7,000, 'rough draft', on my 'writing days'.
(I also freelance comics, animations, etc., etc...)

I aim for a scene a day, which is about 1,000 to 1500 words. Four to six pages.

I do the same. When I plotted out my current WIP ("Bodies in the Snow"), I first looked at the current genre length (80-90K), divided that into the pertinent chapters, then divided the chapters into scenes and came up with about 100 scenes. That gave me the total per scene words.

I write every morning (travel excepted) and aim to complete one scene per day. Sometimes there's more, sometimes less.

I'll even betcha there's some good words in them...not all, but some.

When I get the time to sit down for a good writing stint (not as often as I would like) I can usually churn out about 2,000 words a day. More if the baby takes long naps and I wake up early.
