Hello,

Today I received two Honorable Mentions for feature articles I submitted to the 75th Writer's Digest Writing Competition. Is this award meaningful to agents/editors? I'm wondering whether I should mention it in my queries. (I query for adult magazine pieces and I'm seeking representation for my MG novel.)

Thank you,
dmh

If you got the room on the query, meaning that adding it won't cause your query to over one page, I don't see why not. I can't hurt, right? They might not know what the competetion is, but if nothing else, it's a vote of confidence from another group of writing professionals.

Ummm...my impression is that these awards are not meaningful. The people who judge the awards aren't accomplished professionals in the field, but the Writer's Digest staff. If you're pitching for freelance articles, it might just be OK to mention, but if you're querying for a novel, I'd leave it out.
