The next crapametre requires a hundred word hook. You guys want to do some practice? Post your 100 word hook and then others can comment on it.

Hey, expatbrat, there's a thread about this running under SYW, query forum. Also, Miss Snark has extended the hooks to a maximum of 250 words. Should make our jobs easier.

Neither.

As I understand it, a hook is more like the back cover blurb of a paperback. Tells you the main character, the main conflict, and gives an idea of the plot. It's a "hook" becauase it grabs the reader and makes them want to read your book.

See the FAQ. It sounds to me like she wants the "meat" of the query, without it being a complete query letter.
