Hi --
I've been reading your posts for several hours now and I'm so glad to have found this board.
There's a lot of great information here and I'm so glad you all are so willing to share your experiences, insight and work.
I'm itching to read more and share my own experiences, so I hope to be an active participant!
As for me, I'm a nearly 38-year-old mother to two small daughters (2-and-a-half and 6 months). I write YA/middle grade (still discerning where my manuscript fits in) supernatural mystery/suspense. I've always written for a living (for the man), writing press releases, marketing materials and the like, and have long danced around my dream of writing for kids (taking classes, conferences, dabbling in notebooks, etc.).
For some reason (advancing age?), I've buckled down and gotten serious this past year. My goal is to finish the first draft of my book by December.
I've attended two Writer's Conferences in 2006 (just returned from one in Palm Springs) and met with two different agents at each who'd read 20 pages of my manuscript. I received good feedback from both (both asked to see the full ms), but I wonder if they make that request of everyone....
(I still am completing the ms.)
Though I've always written and thought of myself as a writer, I see how naive I've been with the writing of this manuscript. (For example, I had this warped view that re-writes were optional...that if I were really a good writer, I wouldn't need them...then when I realized the draft wasn't perfect, I'd get discouraged and give up for awhile. This means I've been writing my book since 1999)...
Nonetheless! As I said: serious this year. So thanks for being here.
Looking forward to reading more of the posts --
Debbie
