Today my writing chair broke!

The chair that has long shattered my spine has shattered itself!
I will finally be able to get a new, comfortable chair.

I'll have to make do with a stool tonight, however. :tongue

There's nothing like the furniture falling apart to making you get around to buying that new, comfy chair. :)

The Chair that was Broken is Restored

My very nice chair broke last week, but I was able somehow to put it back together. It's very aerodynamic so just rigging a new spar with a grapple was enough.

:hooray: YAY on a new chair! My chairs are old office hand-me-downs. They're ok, but they're ugly. Someday I'll have one of those awesome huge black leather chairs that vibrates.

You know, I bought my chair at a garage sale for $5 about 5 or six years ago, and it is the most comfortable chair in the house, and the most office style chair I've ever sat in. It has a reclining back that is not stiff at all, a wide seat with soft cushioning. . .couldn't have asked for more. But, my wife hates it because it is the ugliest chair you could ever set your eyes upon.

Great, now I have Munchkins singing in my head.

Good news about the chair though.

lol. I had no idea what this thread was going to be about. LONG LIVE THE CRAPPY DIRTBAG WRITING CHAIRS OUT THERE. I bet there are a lot of miserable sitters here in the Cooler. Millions of stories of chair woes too!

The same thing happened to me last year. Of course, I had to deal with weight jokes from my family. :tongue Never mind that it was a desk chair that was probably 30 years old by then. (One of the joints de-jointed.)

I tried to use an old canvas chair I'd been keeping in the storage closet. That worked until the stitching gave out. It was the end of summer, so next, I tried using a cheap folding patio chair. Don't try this at home! I nearly fell on my @ss.
:scared:

Finally, I tried to make do with a cheap folding chair I bought at Tar-Jay until I got a Real Desk Chair for Christmas. Boy was getting a Real Desk Chair a relief. :D I hope you don't have to wait as long as I did to get a Real Desk Chair.

hahaha...sounds like you have the same problem as me.

Here's the solution, your new mantra: "I am worth spending money on."

(although I was soooo happy when my keyboard shelf broke off of my desk last year during NaNo...POS desk...like this one much better!)

I had this wonderful comfy office chair a couple years ago. The only problem with it was if you leaned back in it, it went SCREEEEEEECCCCCHHHHHH loud enough to wake up the dead, or the deeply sleeping.

My current office chair is as comfortable as two wooden slats, held together with another screeching bar of metal.

So when you sit in your comfy new chair...think of me fondly. Kay? :)

I sit on the couch and write on my laptop. Feet up, feet down, leaning on a big pillow, staring out the french doors, eyes drooping shut, drooling on the keyboard........ maybe I should start to write at the desk. But it just looks so not comfy.

Yeah, hubby's been promising that soon we will get me a new writing chair. Mine's an old captain's chair and while I can spin all the way around in it (which isn't as much fun as it sounds and in fact makes me feel dizzy after I've done it twenty or thirty times) it makes my back and shoulders ache.

Enjoy the new chair!

The chair in my office shrieks like I'm rolling it over all five cats at once when I sit in it so it doesn't get used as often as it should. Normally I sit in my brand new, oversized recliner in the living room with the lap top on my lap. Talk about comfortable! Of course, that's why I bought it in the first place! :D

Now if I was looking to replace my office chair I'd want the same kind of chair as we have at work -nice and high adjustable back, adjustable arms, and squeak free. Of course it probably cost almost as much as my recliner, but it's the best thing about my job!

On the sofa, with cat and laptop
I am one of the sofa sitters as well. The laptop is actually comfortable to type on, probably because my wrists aren't being forced up at a bad angle.

I do miss the Herman Miller chair I had a few jobs ago. The best chairs ever. Mesh, so the seat and back don't get hot. Easily adjustable. Retail - $800.

I'll stick with the sofa (it cost about the same amount)

Remember, it doesn't take a huge metropolis to support a used office furniture store. We've bought from them numerous times. High-end offices refurbish for looks rather than function, so their used stuff often has lots of life left (and isn't godawful ugly, either, just the wrong color).

Plus you can get filing cabinets stronger than anything you can buy new. The rule is to buy only what you can lift.

Ernest Hemingway would be proud

I sit criss cross applesauce in an ancient lounge chair, the kind with the matching footstool. Beautiful burled wood on the bottom, creaky cracked leather on the top and broken. We have pieces of wood supporting it so you can actually sit up in it but I usually turn it sideways and prop a pillow under my butt. Oh, and the footstool is in the living room so if I want to put my feet up I use the Ranier cooler stored under the desk.
Good luck with the new chair!
Sam
