First off, this post isn't meant to be mean-spirited in any way. Just getting that out of the way for the uptight crowd. ;)

If you're any writer on AW who is worth his or her butter, you know who Uncle Jim is.

But I'm curious. Who are you, Uncle Jim? How did you become one of the revered on AW, second on to Jenna (may the Holy Mother Writer bless us all)?

I did some poking around and, so far, have found out that Uncle Jim's stuff came up at Sept. 2003. Other than that, I have no clue.

Who is he? A genial uncle? The official sage of AW? A masked avenger? All of these, probably.

Also, feel free to share any insightful comments he's ever given you. Though it seems like everything he says is insightful!

I can already predict what he'll say to me:

"Why the heck did you make a thread about me, kid?"

I answered this one already; see this

I will confess that umm, for a long time I only knew James Macdonald as Debra Doyle's husband. My favorite book of theirs, of those I've read, is Apocalypse Door. I've made his Key Lime Pie, and some day, I have to make one for him, because I can pipe the merringue in a Celtic knot . . .

Do read his posts on Making Light.

The main way one becomes an icon on the board is to post things worth reading. And which provide valuable information. There aren’t a whole lot of people who can contribute a few thousand posts, all of which are worth the time to read. James MacDonald is one. So are Jenna and Victoria. And Medievalist. And a few others as well.

Then there are the mainstays - people who post often, keep the discussions going, and usually have something of interest to contribute

Finally, there are the anti-icons - those (who shall remain nameless) whose numerous posts are seldom worth your time.

The rest of us just chime in on occasion.

Great. Now we'll spend the rest of the night wondering which categories we fall into. I, for one, will get no sleep now. I hope you're happy. ;)

A fun trivia fact: Not everyone knows that Uncle Jim's picture on the forums is not how he really appears in public!

This, ladies and germs, is the real Uncle Jim:

Uncle Jim is AW's very own version of Chuck Norris: http://www.chucknorrisfacts.com/

Uncle Jim rescues two baby writers from a snowdrift every winter morning.
Uncle Jim inhales adverbs and exhales nouns.

P.S. That website was awesome

Ah, we're doing Norris-Jim jokes now, huh?
How about this:

Uncle Jim writes perfectly, thus, he only uses tax.

Think about it...

Nope. I really don't get it. Am I just dense?
