Hi, I am sure this question has been asked before but I was curious what the normal word count is?

I am writing my first romance m/s and with some research I know I want to aim for 60,000 words. I have an idea for a more erotic type story line but after write 25,000 in my first ms I highly doubt I'd be able to make my newest idea 60,000!

Thanks for any tips :)

If you are looking at print markets I think it tends to be up to 12000 words to be in an anthology and around 50,000 and over to be a stand alone. Epublishers take the full range but IMHO the intermediate 20-50k lengths earn best (per word).

Yep, what Veinglory said.

Huge variation in word count, but erotica tends to feature more novellas than other genres. I seem to end up with novella length for most of my erotica stories, in the 25K to 45K range, and more often in the 25K range. I do have a collection of novellas I'm hoping to have published by Liquid Silver in 2007, that consists of either three or four novellas with a connecting thread that they're all set on a fictional island.

I am also working on my first book of Erotica, it will consist of several short stories , with different characters. Should I use the same guidelines for word count. Also, besides Liquid Silver, who else publishes good Erotica from new authors

It depends very much on the content and writing style. I would encourage you to post a basic genre, plot, sex-content outline of the manuscript in a new thread and see which places people suggest.

You can post here if you put [adult] in the subject line. But you might want to tone down the details for forum posting and PM full details to anyone who asks.
