I was rereading some scenes for my WIP that I'm editing, and some felt emotionally overwrought. In many cases I think it's just bad writing that needs sorting out, but at other times I can't put my finger on why something has tipped over the edge from an attempt at emotional authenticity to something eekier.
So, what makes something melodramatic? How do you avoid it?
