Sci-Fi Novel Writing Question.

My novel is set in the future. A few hundred years into the future in fact. Humanity has colonised the stars. My question is has any body got any ideas on what to call region of space that humans occupy?

EG, Some other than the old classics of Empire and Federation.

Territory, Discovered Space, Occupied Space, the Universal Conglomerate- anything that sounds vaguely official and pompous should do, right?

If it's one of these cases where exploration/settlement has proceeded eveningly in all directions, such that at any particular point in time a sphere X lightyears in radius centred on Earth has been settled, you could call it "the Sphere".

I was actually thinking Territories. But I live Occupied Space as well.

I was also playing around with Confederacy... I don't know.

Earth-Space? Rationalised-Space? Earth Rollout Areas? Processed Space? I'm a civil servant in my day-job and since occupied/colonised areas of space are likely to be named by civil servants, I'm trying to think of the most pompous things my bosses might come up with. Plus, bear in mind that new things quite often pick up names and terms from old things because we don't have new terms to describe them, like calling things that go into space 'space-ships' and 'launches' although they are really nothing like the sea-faring craft from which the names are borrowed.

How about "Disney Land" because it was overrun by a Disney Cult, and any effort to breach the outer wall results in pitched battle between heavily-armed mouseketeers blasting their battle music "It's a Small Unvierse After All" and charging into battle from their mighty fortress, Space Mountain!

How about named after the time periods or motivations in which those planets were explored/colonized?

The Corporate Sphere
The Diaspora Shell
The Shi'ite Radial
The Tertiary Field
The Christian Corridor
The Communist Clump (known to the inhabitants as the People's Freedom Colonies)

Just a couple of ideas:

Known Space
Human Space
EarthSpace (assuming your colonists originated on Earth)
Terran Space
New Space
Inhabited Space (depending how xenophobic your colonists are, and whether they have discovered other sentient races in their expansion)
The Colonies
Offworlds

Or you could name the colonized worlds after Terran space colonies:
New Vegas
SoCal
New Austin
Orlando
