In my harmless little story, of girl's best friend gone missing and the sockmonster who got blamed, I was made aware that some had never heard of this elusive beast. I tried to fix that and share my knowledge...

Apparently he didn't want it shared! I made the sockmonster get blamed for the kidnapping when he stole my scrunchie..all though I did offer to increase his sock allowance if he returned it(for back story pm me I'll tell you where to look). Tonight he pulled a fast one. I'm not even sure how he did it yet, unless he has a contract with the dryer..

My husband recieved new uniform shirts for work. They needed to be washed. I took the shirts out of the wrapping they came in from the factory; pulled the clips off, removed paper and cardboard, shook them out and put in the washing machine. When the load was done I removed shirts and put in the dryer. 5 shirts all right side out went into the dryer.

As I was pulling the shirts out of the dryer to hang up 4 were right side out..1 was inside out. Completely inside out..still buttoned.

P.s. told the story here..as I realized the sockmonster debate had grown into something I didn't expect when I posted my story.

Oh, the Sock Monster is real all right. And just to put the rumors to rest. The matching initials are pure coincidence. I do not now endorse, nor have I ever endorsed the actions of this nefarious creature. In fact, he has made me a frequent victim! ;)

Enlightenment Has Come

I feel so enlightened. I never knew of this evil creature's identity until now. Thank you, Bk, for illuminating my previously veiled understanding. :)

I had to buy new socks today. Something keeps taking one sock out of each pair. I need Scully and Mulder over here pronto.

SusieSmith

My cat is working with this creature. I don't know what he gets out of the deal, but he steals socks and puts them under the bed for the sockmonster. I've caught him at it several times.

I read a science fiction story a long time ago where an engineer created the first working teleportation system because his dryer kept trading socks with someone else's dryer in a different state. Makes you wonder, huh? ;)

I think they transform into clothes hangers. I have no matching socks but a closet full of those darn hangers.

Sounds like a funny story, IT.

Philosophy of the Sock Monster

I've been reading a lot of philosophy and logic lately. Here's how I think some of history's leading philosophers and spiritual leaders of thoughtwould address this problem of a missing sock, conspiratorial cats, and the mysterious, elusive "sock monster."

Moses: "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's sock"

Socrates: "What makes you think you really lost your sock?"

Zeno (founder of Stoicism): "Do not let the loss of a sock change who you are."

John Calvin: "You were predestined to lose your sock."

John Locke: "In a true state of nature, there would be no socks. A sock derives its value only from the consent of those who create it and use it."

Karl Marx: "Unless all the workers in the world can have socks, you shouldn't either."

Carl Sagan: "The sock is all that is, was, or ever will be."

Jean-Paul Sartre: "We and the socks are trapped in a world of meaningless experience, from which there is no escape."

Jacques Derrida (deconstructionist): "Socks do not exist."

Sorry....it's been a long day.

.... *snip*

I just want to say that although me and my sock monster have a looooong history, and me and my own conspiratorial cat have a looooong relationship... I'm obsessed with philosophy, I LOVED your analysis of some of the world's finest thinkers. And I'm pretty sure you're RIGHT ON! ;) .... and it's been a heckuvva long day for me too.

Some Literary thoughts on socks

Shakespeare: Socks or no socks, that is the question
whether 'tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of the sockmonster....

Dickens: It was the best of socks, it was the worst of socks, it was the summer of a dryer, it was the winter of the sock monster.

For the fantasy and SF fans:

Douglas Adams: The answer is 42 (socks).

Star Trek: Beam me up, Socky!

J.R.R. Tolkein: One sock to rule them all, one sock to find them, one sock to bring them all and in the darkness bind them in the land of MoreDryers where the sockmonsters lie.

Izaak Dineson- I had a sock in Africa...

Jane Austen- It is a truth universially acknowledged that a sockmonkey in possession of a good dryer must be in want of a sockmonster.

Shakespeare again: Once more dear Sockmonkeys into the dryer!

Hemmingway: Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of socks and those who have hunted sockmonsters long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter.

ETA-I need a hobby

Sockmonster's brother?

I think I met the sockmonster's brother a few days ago. I went into my closet to get out a tee shirt...and discovered about six tee shirts missing. I live alone - unless you count my Golden Retriver who has never been known to wear a tee shirt (or jeans...or shoes...and certainly not my bras). What's really scary is that a few years ago we kept having someone sneaking in when we were out (stuff would be moved) and before I moved back here, a friend came in to ready the house for me...and discovered a pair of high wader fisherman's boots in the closet. I think that monster is the "retriever monster", maybe a cousin to sock and tee shirt monster?

I don't like tee short monster, and I really don't like getting presents from "retriever monster", so if you're talking to sockmonster, ask him to tell his relatives to stay out of my closet.
