I emailed Ellora's Cave asking a specific question about content that was not answered in their submissions section. On their website they say if you have any further questions to just email them.
Well today I got a automated email now saying they cannot answer questions and I would have to send them in the manuscript......
If their policies have changed they should update that on the website.
It seems they have become another publisher who are too busy to answer simple questions.

That's sad. I will admit that after submitting with them I am a lot less likely to buy from them because the attitude towards people submitting was not great.

What was your question, Brainstorm? I know a lot of EC authors (I haven't been one anywhere near long enough to answer questions) I can ask.

I just asked if they were open to transgendered characters. I know they are open to les/gay and bi stories.

Chin up 77! Loose Id, Venus, Changeling- there are a lot of e pubs out there accepting gay or experimental, so why not trans? As much as publishers latch onto a trend and lurch it to death, there will be one (!) out there who is ready for the next big thing.

Now if the next big thing is short sf erotica with no sex until page 50, I'll be happy!

I can't remember off-hand whether Loose Id has published stories with transfolk, but they've certainly published ones with hermaphrodites, so I'd say that trans stories would be welcome there.

I have yet to try EC but I dare say their level of sales is worth hanging in there and giving the benefit of the doubt. I do write for Loose Id and would certainly recommend them. I have no doubt they would be open to trans.

I'm nowhere near ready to submit a story--i've thought of EC when I am ready...or Harlequin--but again i'm not sure. Right now i'm sort of "shopping" around to see who takes what.
